Today was my first official day at work and the return of Sven to the office as well! I started this new day with an introduction to the ARCHICAD programme, which isslightly different from the other drafting and 3D software I am more familiar with but after an in-depth tutorial from Sven I got going.
I started off practicing on the interior elevations of an upcoming hotel in Berlin. It was interesting to find that the programme is actually so logical it appears simpler than the ones I usually use and yet you generate drawings more precisely.
After giving me some time to practice Sven came to see my progress and was very patient in reviewing each part of the work.
I felt conscious as I had not worked that quickly but I know the way to improve is to practice so that the command keys become intuitive. I will get there!

Later in the afternoon, I briefly presented some preliminary research I had created and composed into mood boards for another upcoming project, a resort hotel and residence on Kenya's tropical coastline. It is very exciting to be part of an early thinking process in a project with so many design possibilities! As I showed my ideas to Sven and Sonia we discussed the richness of the country's landscapes, vegetation, different typographies, seasonal periods and cultures. Plus we discussed how such a hotel could reflect on contemporary African architectural design and explored how the different targeted clients of the hotel, local residents and tourists, would experience this and expect the standards currently set globally by award winning case-studies of ecologically sustainable resorts and other hotel formats.

To close, Sven said, “Mood boards are essential in early thinking processes of a project they partially visualize what has yet to be realized.
I feel inspired to continue and do not want to stop thinking about all of these new ideas.
