Today is the day! Finally it is Tuesday and I am very pleased, as I have been secretly excited to have the first meeting in my life with a material supplier!
At 11:00 am Sven and I met Charlotte Baines, the sales manager at Kvadrat Maharam in Dubai and the meeting began with Sven introducing SVENM and the nature of our projects; he then went into more detail about specific materials we are looking for.
Charlotte responded by introducing us both to a number of beautiful material collections with product names such as Fiord, Coda 2, Clara 2 and Divina. Each collection evokes its own unique ambiance and all of them come in great combinations of colours and textures.
The Fiord collection, for instance can contain six colours of thread in one piece of cloth and has a real depth; while Coda 2 is woven to both be breathable (if it's hot it keeps you cool) and insulate (when it's cold it keeps you warm). As Charlotte took us through each range I was mesmerised.
Next came the Divine collection which includes Divine MD, Divine 3 and Divine Melange 2. This collection is the closest to the felt material that we are looking for and she went into more details telling us how this material can be applied.
At the end of the meeting, we picked out the colours that we want from each collection and defined the materials we are interested in specifying. I gained a great amount of knowledge from being a part of this process and look forward to seeing additional Kvadrat samples which will be delivered to the office in the coming week.
