All designers use their own set of tools and resources to help their workflow; here are couple of my personal favorites as a designer.
Sketch Book - The most simple form of communication with others through sketches and pictures.
Iphone - Instantly and effortlessly taking quick snaps and transferring work between devices.
Scale ruler - To measure and aid in drawing straight lines and as a straight guide for cutting and scoring with a blade.
Architecture & design magazines - Keeping up to date with the latest innovative projects and designs, and getting inspired.
Mouse - Softwares such Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign are leading applications for designers, therefore having mouse is a must to have a better work flow.
USB - Inexpensive but really useful, for always having important documents and program settings on hand.
Good markers - Copics are the best, you can't achieve that kind of blending and shading with other markers.
Tracing paper - A quick way of creating drawings which could be copied precisely.
X-acto Knife and Tape - Cut and paste, really helpful in the design process.
Coffee - It starts you up and generates this flow of ideas.
