The more time I spent with Sonia, working next to her at the office, the more interesting facts I learnt and the more helpful hacks and more experience I gained about how to get my work done more efficiently and effectively.
One thing I am working on is an article for Folio magazine about Our experience as Internees at AlSerkal Avenue.
Sonia took the time to go through the draft article I had written and one comment she said was " You need to have a voice deeper than yours."
After she took the time to explain how to use other people as references to enrich my voice, I was able to spot this technique an notice it in other published articles. I was so used to the tone I write my every day entries in, that I kind of forgot how I write a proper article! One thing she told me was to always read beyond my topic, and enrich myself with the culture surrounding it. By culture, I mean far beyond the small circle of my headline. She recommended a book called " Ways of Seeing by John Burger; a book that criticizes traditional western culture aesthetics by raising questions and discussing ideologies hidden in images.
Another super helpful book she mentioned was " The system of objects" by Jean Baudrillard that revolves around cultural philosophy of criticism through a Marxist perspective, while analyzing interior design elements and furniture.
"Reading does not only enrich the mind, but together the mind and soul"~
